Although Washington County is often described as the economic engine for the region, approximately 40% of the households in the County have incomes below 80% of the area median family income. In 2000, more than 50% of the senior households in Washington County fell into this group. A significant percentage of county households face some kind of housing problem, including spending more than 30% of their monthly income on housing, and some even spending 50% and choosing between paying rent or buying food for their families. Minimum wage workers can’t afford market rents. The waiting list at the Housing Authority for subsidized housing is years long. There is a need for thousands of additional units. The mission of the Community Housing Fund is to increase the supply of affordable housing in the County by acting as a catalyst to create and attract new financial resources for housing and bring community partners together to produce more units. |
Money raised through “iGiveWhereiLive” will be matched by other funding sources and will go directly to non-profit organizations and others building affordable housing today. The funds will not operate any programs, but will support community organizations that are experienced and work efficiently and effectively to produce units. Your contribution will provide the gap financing to make proposed projects a reality, will help to acquire land for future projects before the costs go up, and lower development costs so rents may stay low. With your help, The Community Housing Fund will create housing opportunities for families, minimum wage workers, seniors, and others who have no options today. As a community, we can make a difference. The Community Housing Fund is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, tax ID # 27-0049012. Donations to the Fund are deductible to the full extent of the law. |
