The Good Neighbor Center is a homeless shelter located in Tigard. We house over 100 families a year. We have nine family rooms and we provide meals, case management and some resources for families who move out and in to our Housing Stabilization Program. Residents at the Good Neighbor Center must register their children in school 24 hours after arriving. Our Children's Program works with parents and children to help the children succeed in school. Our Housing Stabilization Program offers transitional housing to clients who work our program and have a chance at making an income to keep them in housing. Currently, we have 25 families living in 2 complexes. If not for this program, they would be in other homeless shelters. Last year, we served over 200 individuals and slightly more than 50% of those individuals were under the age of 15. The shelter provides at least a five week stay for families and sometimes longer if families are making progress and need extra time. |
All our food and meals are donated by volunteers through churches or individuals. We have no food budget. Over night hosts arrive at 10 PM and leave at 6 AM when staff arrives. This volunteer effort saves us 1.5 full-time staff positions. Over 1400 volunteers help out annually at the shelter. The Good Neighbor Center is a nonprofit organization, Tax ID# 93-1269989. Donations to the Good Neighbor Center are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. |
