The Foundation raises money for the Family Assistance Program so that infants, children, teens and adults - the physically fit and the physically challenged - frοm low-income families have access to recreational and sports programs at the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District.

These programs promote ethnic and cultural harmony, build self-esteem, develop leadership skills; and reduce stress, alienation, loneliness and antisocial behaviors. Participation results in better health, increased self-confidence, stronger self-discipline, a chance to socialize, learn new skills, and of course, have fun.

The four activities that receive the greatest number of requests are:

Summer, Sports & Swim Camps - June, July and August

Camp Rivendale for Disabled Youth - the only day camp in the Portland Metro area for developmentally disabled children - provides healthy, supervised activities for hundreds of children and teens and much needed respite for their parents.

Youth Basketball Programs - In partnership with schools and community groups, and with the help of more than 200 volunteer coaches, THPRD delivers athletic programs for the district’s middle school athletes. Of the more than 2800 youth in basketball programs, about 150 request and receive Family Assistance waivers.

Family Swim Passes – Low-income families are severely limited in the types of healthy activities they can participate in together. The Family Swim Pass allows them the opportunity to swim, relax and enjoy time as a family.

The need for Family Assistance grows each year (more than 500 families ask for help each year) and your financial support will assure that no one in need is turned away.
