Diagnosed with autism and schizophrenia, thirteen-year-old Ben had never attended school for more than an hour a day. He had limited verbal skills and was very violent.
Through the great work of caring staff in a behavioral program run by Northwest Regional Education Service District he has not been in a full restraint in six months, he attends school all day, participates and interacts with other students and has become much more verbal. Ben is succeeding in school and has made friends.
"This has taken a lot of work, his mother reflected, "But we owe everything to the ESD staff who work with my son."

THE G.A.P.S. FOUNDATION EXISTS to support student success in public schools in Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook and Washington counties by funding special programs and projects for educators as they work to increase graduation rates and provide greater opportunities for success for children with disabilities and those that are at risk.
MEASURING SUCCESS Since its incorporation in 2006, The G.A.P.S. Foundation funded 141 mini-grants at over 80 schools and programs, totaling $104,357 benefiting more than 14,000 students in the four-county region.
